AzCHOW Roots Conference 2024

The Arizona Community Health Workers Association (AzCHOW) held their yearly conference on June 26 and 27 at the Wild Horse Pass Resort & Casino in Chandler, AZ. This year, APCA now represents our AANHPI community with Training and Healthcare Navigation Manager, Liza Merrill, on the CHW board.

Liza appeared on the CHW Panel Presentation: Voices From the Field, as well as the Closing CHW Panel to end the event. Communications Manager Jessika Malic volunteered to share her personal story about her family’s struggle with health concerns and the affect it has on how APCA advocates for the community.

The 2024 Roots Conference provided new and exciting information regarding the fuuture of a CHW professional and shared important topics such as Addressing Secondary Traumatic Stress with the Community Resiliency Model, Sexual Violance 101 & Cultural Humility, and Addressing Blood Pressure.

Attendees were treated with a visit and speech from Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, showing his support for CHWs and taking our concerns to a higher level.

Heallthcare Navigator and CHW Grace Tokeak was awarded the Outstanding CHW Joel Meister 2024 award, which is greatly deserved for all the hard work she does, especially for her local Marshallese community.
